(A dedication to my Supreme Being on His birthday)
[A poem by Smt. Chhandaa Chandra on Shri Datta Swami]
Personality of Swami is just not thinkable,
It’s so great that it is indeed not even imaginable!
The more we put effort to know, the more we get amazed,
It’s like a quick sand, the more we try, the deeper we travelled.
No human soul can ever have such a character,
The personality that Swami has, just can’t be covered.
I will try to reveal Your character, partly by taking two examples,
So that we can have at least some idea and a very small preamble.
(preamble:- an introduction)
These two examples will make it clear how charming You are,
Let me tell and try to share, be logical and a heart follower.
In the incarnation of Lord Rama, when You came down,
You killed Vaali from behind a tree, making him fall his crown.
Though You could have easily killed Vaali in no time,
But You behaved as an ordinary, showed that character as prime.
No one understands the reason behind, why did You do so?
Deep rooted is the significance, behind Your this show.
You stuck to Your mission, respecting auchitya and shreshthattva,
(auchitya:- appropriateness, shreshthattva:- greatness)
Took the blame on Yourself, proving Lord Brahma’s words as the ultimate truth.
If You wanted, You could have broken Brahma’s boon on Vaali,
Instead, You kept silent, took all chance to even criticise You singly.
Finally, You took the shame on You, for no fault and no sin at all,
Underwent suffering in the birth of Krishna by an arrow and fall.
Is it even thinkable for a normal human being?
That without doing any sin, You Yourself underwent it’s punishing!
This one example is sufficient to clearly reveal Your greatest greatness,
Even then if someone is not satisfied, his mind will be cleaned in the next case.
After Lord Rama, You came in the form of incarnation Lord Krishna,
There You were the most versatile, no one matches You, O Kanha!
(Kanha:- God Krishna)
The qualities that You exhibited in this most fullest incarnation,
In no other form You needed them, as it was not required in that mission.
At a very tender age, You clearly established Your purpose of descending,
(descend:- come down)
You cleared the joint test of child and wealth in the first stage by testing.
All Gopikas, being sages for births together, could not pass this examination,
Only twelve among them, could prove their real love to You, the contemporary human incarnation.
Putreshanaa (bond with child) being the toughest one, all sat for the final paper,
This will test the bond with husband, making everything clear.
Very easily all passed this exam, no place for any ambiguity,
(ambiguity:- doubtfulness)
Gives a clear picture of how strong the bond with child is, in it’s most purity.
For only those twelve Kohinoor diamonds (Gopikas), You created the Goloka,
Which is even above Your abode, to show Your love to those sacred Gopikas.
Though You stopped them to come near to You, describing it as a sin,
Being full in love with You, they could not stay away, not even they listened.
You again threatened them by showing the punishment for such a sin,
Red-hot copper statue that has to be embraced in hell, they, not at all caring.
Such was the love for You, excellent was the inner ambience,
(ambience:- quality or character)
Lovingly they got ready to accept even that terrible sufferance.
Since this red-hot statue was supposed to be that of You, O Lord Krishna!
They did not even falter at all, jumped to unite with their long-awaited Kanha.
(falter:- to move unsteadily)
Seeing their intensity of love, finally You too responded,
They surrendered everything to You, making the union most sacred.
In this way, You loved the climax love of all the sacred Gopikas,
They got reward but You took punishment, not only once but twice.
Once for Yourself, second for the Gopika, isn’t it really harsh?
You took the assumed sin on You, making the play only one sided,
I can’t even find a trace of sin, punishment should have nullified.
(nullify:- cancel out)
You love both justice as well as climax love with an equality,
These two being opposite in nature, You did not show any partiality.
Both of them need to be protected at the same time,
For that sake, relieving Your devotees, You took the crime.
Justice of the world is of utmost importance for Your creation,
You found a unique way, giving this problem a perfect solution.
In this way, You attacked two birds in a single arrow,
No one even in future can find fault with You, but to bow.
What an intelligent way to come out of this most crucial situation,
None other than God can have, such an unimaginable explanation.
Can any human soul has this capacity to do like this?
Surely not a single one, better not to imitate You, even in wish.
These two examples clearly indicate, what can be Your personality,
I just can’t imagine it, with tears in my eyes, can feel the magnanimity!
(magnanimity:- generosity)
O the Supreme being, if such is Your personality,
It is for sure that devotion will increase with spontaneity.
(spontaneity:- being spontaneous)
What an amazing character You have, my Maha Nayak,
(Maha Nayak:- Ultimate Leader)
O Swami, Gita names it beautifully as ‘Aashcharyavat’.
(Aashcharyavat:- like big wonder)
No other words in this world can match Your nobility,
I really can’t stop from loving You, O my Almighty!
Such is Your attraction in each and every action,
How can I stay away from You and not achieve increased devotion?
Still at the end, I need to accept and tell,
That Swami, my God, You are always unimaginable.
Whatever may be related to You, be it Your personality or any quality,
You are always beyond every limit and all other possibilities.
In the mortal human body of You, the Unimaginable God exists,
We always make the mistake, taking You in our own ways.
Let me put more effort and stay firm in the path of Your sacred devotion,
Only request of this soul that You be always with me, let there be no suspicion.
Day by day let me be attracted more towards Your personality,
At the same time, I should be able to withhold your dignity.
The moment I fail to do so, let this life face the end its journey,
No matter how it sees it’s ending, nothing to do with this body.
