Why did Krishna show the Vishvaroopam as His original form to Arjuna, instead of showing Himself as Datta?

[A question asked by Śrī Bharath Krishna.]

Swāmi replied: Actually, the Viśvarūpam (Cosmic Form) showed by Kṛṣṇa to Arjuna was indeed the form of God Datta. The central three faces of the Cosmic Form were Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Śiva, respectively, as seen in the form of God Datta. The other faces seen in the Cosmic Form were the faces of other Incarnations of God Datta. There was no new face, which did not belong to God Datta. The total form was God Datta alone. That vision seen by Arjuna is described to be intensely radiant with the power of thousands of suns. It means that it was an Energetic Incarnation. God Datta is the first Energetic Incarnation of God. So, naturally, the form of God Datta seen by Arjuna as the Viśvarūpam was so intensely radiant.
