Speeches of Shri Datta Swami In First World Parliament on Spirituality Part-15

96) Practical Philosophy:-

The sacrifice (yajna) is a seminar of spiritual knowledge followed by singing devotional prayers on God and the whole seminar is supported by arrangement of food in the interval, which involves preparation of food (karmasamnyaasa) and donating food materials (karmaphalatyaaga), both put together, called as practical philosophy (karmayoga). Even the fire used to cook the food was lit with lot of strenuous work. The cooked food mixed with excess ghee (clarified butter) was served to the hungry participants, which was eaten by them, to be burnt in their hunger fire, called as vaishvaanara. By this, the energy required for the discussion of spiritual knowledge was supplied.

The spiritual knowledge and devotion are called as theoretical philosophy. Theoretical philosophy gives theoretical fruits and practical philosophy gives practical fruits. Hence, 80% of the Veda deals with practical philosophy and rest 20% only deals with theoretical philosophy. When a king performs sacrifice, he attends the practical philosophy including payment of Guru Dakshinaa (offering of money) to the sages participating in the sacrifice. Hence, all the real practical fruit goes to the king only. The theoretical philosophy is certainly the mother of practical philosophy and hence, is very important. But, the practical philosophy alone brings the practical fruit. Both are equally important in their own angles. In view of the fruit, practical philosophy becomes most important final step. The sponsor of seminar is given the real fruit.
