[Shri Anil asked: The Roman governor, Pilate, could not find any charge against Jesus for His crucifixion. Pilate even declared that to the people and tried to free Jesus, but the public pressurised Pilate to crucify Jesus. When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.” Swami, here Pilate initially tried to free Jesus, but since the public objected, fearing them, Pilate could not free Jesus and he washed his hands saying that he is not responsible for Jesus’s death. Is Pilate devoid of the sin of Jesus’s killing?]
Swami replied: Not at all! Even if he had used sanitizer to clean his hands, not even a trace of his sin would be washed! He acted as per his own nature. Power and wealth are the most costly wines to which some people are always addicted. Hence, one should not blame God by saying that the governor acted like that by the will of God since God wanted the crucifixion to happen. Cunning people always try to throw the blame on God and try to escape from the punishment of sin. God is not such a fool to be exploited by such cunning people. God gives double punishment to them, one for the crime and another for their crooked intelligence in trying to divert the truth. Even if God had not wished for the crucifixion, the governor would have behaved in the same way.
