[An online spiritual discussion was conducted on January 03, 2021, in which several devotees participated. Some of the questions of devotees answered by Swāmi are given below.]
[Smt. Sudha Rani asked: Swami, You said that ‘Anaghā’ is nothing but the first wave of God’s imagination, or the first wish of God (prathama ūha), which manifested as creation. Does this mean that Anaghā is the same as Mūla Māyā, which is the root cause of creation? Also are Adam and Eve none other than the Brahman and Mūla Māyā mentioned in our Hindu scriptures? Can You please correlate the process of creation explained in the scriptures of different religions?]
Swāmi replied: Adam and Eve are the first souls created by God after completing the rest of creation. Anaghā is also a soul and this word means the feminine soul who has not committed any sin. This name was given to the Gopikās by Lord Kṛṣṇa in the context of whether the Gopikās had committed a sin by giving more importance to God than their husbands, children and wealth. The bonds with one’s life-partner, children and wealth are the three strongest worldly bonds known as dāreṣaṇā, putreṣaṇā and dhaneṣaṇā respectively. If the Gopikās had given more importance to any other soul as compared to their husbands, issues, parents, in-laws and other relatives, then, it would have been a sin. But they had given the topmost importance to God Kṛṣṇa, neglecting all the worldly bonds, for the sake of their bond with Him. Giving importance to some other human being, neglecting one’s legitimate human bonds is a sin because in doing so, one has voted for the path of injustice (duṣpravṛtti) instead of justice (pravṛtti). But giving importance to God, neglecting all the legitimate worldly bonds is voting for nivṛtti over pravṛtti. Voting for injustice over justice is a sin, but voting for God over justice is not a sin. The Gopikās even cheated their legitimate worldly bonds for the sake of their bond with God Kṛṣṇa and the Gītā says that such cheating of one’s legitimate bonds is not a sin (Sarvadharmān parityajya…). When justice and injustice compete for our vote, we must vote for justice and not for injustice. But when justice and God compete for our vote, we have to vote for God and not for justice. Voting for God is not a sin and this is the meaning of the word Anaghā. It indicates the climax devotee called a Gopikā. Kṛṣṇa was God Datta and the Gopikā is Anaghā or sinless. Every soul, including the entire creation, is just a wave of the imagination of the unimaginable God. Anaghā is called the first wave, which means the topmost soul. Here the word ‘first’ refers to the topmost position. It does not mean the one created in the beginning of creation.
