Swami answers questions of Shri Uday

1. Why can't the Gurus directly preach to those who are in economic and political power?

[Shri B. Uday asked:- Namaste. If spiritual teachers like Shri Datta Swami, Baba Ramdev, Jaggi Vasudev etc., are trying to spread love and happiness by teaching truth about life, then why can’t they teach directly to those who are in economic and political power. Instead of teaching for common people they can enlighten those who are in power so that change can be rapid? But I did not find much progress in my surrounding, which is filled with injustice, crime, violence, abuse of women and children etc.?]

Swami replied:- Spiritual knowledge must be absorbed and digested for getting any practical change. This absorption and digestion depend on the mental setup (samskaara) of the soul, which is resulting from past several births. This is the internal nature called ‘prakruti’ or ‘svabhaava’ (Prakrtiṃ yānti…, Svabhāvastu pravartate – Gita) and this alone is responsible for the absorption and digestion of true spiritual knowledge preached by preachers. This nature does not depend on external factors like economic and political powers. There are several rich people, who are very good and there are several poor people who are very bad. There were very good kings and very bad citizens. Kings like Janaka, Dasharatha, Harishchandra etc., were very good. Normal citizens like terrorists are very bad. Even in the present politics, there are several good political leaders. You cannot say that peace in society is depending on rich people and rulers in the government. The public also contains a lot of bad people.

Swami

The mental setup of any human being is the segregation of strong thoughts acquired in the past millions of births. Of course, it is true that wealth and power induce ego into the soul of any human being. But, you cannot generalize this since liking for justice and aversion to injustice depend upon the inherent nature of any human soul. You have come to this opinion due to your emotional mind. You must control your emotions and maintain the balance of mind so that a major part of your energy is  diverted to the brain or intelligence so that you will understand the truth by logical analysis. While preaching spiritual knowledge, the preaching is done to all the public, whoever comes with interest. Preaching cannot be confined to rich people or political people only. Whether somebody is rich or poor and a politician or ordinary citizen, he/she having interest in  spiritual knowledge only attends the preaching of a spiritual preacher.

2. Can’t the elders change the qualities of a child-soul in the period of its growth?

[Namaste. Thank You for answering my previous question Swami. Can’t the elders change the qualities of a child-soul in the period of its growth by their powerful guidance?]

Swami replied:- It is not possible. The reason is that the qualities are like solid diamonds materialized from strong thoughts over millions of past births. The strong thought is called ‘Vaasanaa’, which is like the subtle water vapor in gaseous state. The stronger thought is called ‘Samskaara’, which is like the stronger gross water in liquid state. The strongest thought is called ‘Guna’ (quality), which is like the strongest ice in solid state. All these three states belong to energy phase only and the strong, stronger and strongest states of energy only since Vaasanaa or Samskaara or Guna is thought only, which is basically nervous energy. The strength of energy increases as the frequency (repetition of the memory of thought as said in the Gita – Dhyāyato viṣayān…) becomes greater and greater. The gaseous phase, liquid phase and solid phase are the three states of matter and not the states of energy, which are mentioned as similes only. Whatever power may exist in the guidance of elders in this birth, such power cannot stand before the gathered thoughts during the past millions of births. God Krishna Himself preached the Kauravas not to fight with the Pandavas, but, failed in His advice. The reason is that the inherent nature (called ‘prakruti’ or ‘svabhaava’ strengthened for the past several births) of the Kauravas was very very strong, which could not be influenced even by God. Krishna told in the Gita “souls follow their inherent nature and there is no use of resistance from anybody (Prakṛtiṃ yānti bhūtāni)”. When God Himself told like this, do you think that the guidance of the elders will change the inherent nature of the soul? Raavana was grown up in the atmosphere of sages, who guided him in the childhood being the son of the great sage Kashyapa. Was there any change in his inherent nature? Even God and the sages could not succeed in this matter!

3. Swami told that Vaasanaa is 1% strong, Samskaara is 9% stronger and Guna is 90% strongest. How did Guna get such a high-jump in strength?]

Swami Replied:- When I told about Vaasanaa, I compared it to strong water vapor of gaseous state of matter. When Samskaara was mentioned, I compared it to the stronger water of liquid state of matter. When Guna was mentioned, I compared it to the most strongest diamond of solid state of matter. Diamond is most strongest among strongest solids. Therefore, the sudden jump of Guna is justified. Vaasanaa can disappear by self-analysis. Samskaara can disappear by the preaching of the divine preacher called Sadguru. Guna cannot disappear even if God or Sadguru preaches. Hence, Guna is not only the strongest but also the most strongest and hence, a double superlative degree is used as used by Shakespeare. Angels have Vaasanas. Good men have Samskaaras. Devilish men or demons have Gunas. Therefore, ordinary elder human beings cannot change even Samskaaras, not to speak of Gunas. You are talking about changing Gunas, which is completely impossible. However, if Gunas (qualities) are diverted to God, they will be useful in attaining God’s grace!
