POEM 1
O God Datta, You Are My Sky & My Sun
[A poem on His Holiness Shri Datta Swami by Smt. Priyanka from Canada]
I am just a soul, a part of this Earth.
Whereas, You are like the vast eternal sky.
The Earth and sky are very different,
Just like soul and God are totally different.
O God Datta, like this - You are my Sky.
The soul-earth looks at her God-Sky, thinks that He is far away from her.
She gets trapped in illusions, forgetting that the Sky is all-pervading.
Just like every inch of the Earth is connected to her sky,
Wherever I am, I will always be connected to You.
O God Datta, like this – You are my Sky.
The sky has many layers, some imaginable and some invisible to us,
With a cloud blanket, shielding the Earth from harmful radiations.
Whatever You do also has many layers, some unimaginable or unknown to us,
Protecting me from ‘worldly radiations of life’, just like the Earth’s sky does.
O God Datta, like this - You are my Sky.
Just like the Earth rotates around her sun,
I feel I am dance-rotating around You, blissfully floating in Your love.
Just like the Earth revolves around her sun,
I feel I am dance-revolving around You, like ‘pradakshinas’ around my Sun.
O God Datta, like this - You are my Sun.
Just like half of the Earth experiences night,
My natural state as a soul is of dark ignorance with no true sight.
Just like the other half of the Earth faces the sun & experiences light,
I am also lit due to Your association, so radiant & bright.
O God Datta, like this - You are my Sun.
The sun seems to be playing the game of hide and seek with the Earth,
As it dazzles in front of her for a while, and other times it hides behind some clouds.
Similarly, my glorious Sun gives me His darshan sometimes,
And other times, hides behind some clouds called time.
O God Datta, like this - You are my Sun.
The moon, just like the Earth is illuminated by the sun,
And You left huge craters on it, visible as black marks from down here.
Even when the full moon is totally glowing, those blackish spots remind us -
That a soul is full of deep crater-flaws & its source of shine is only from it’s Sun.
You make it shine Yourself, and even wear it as a jewel on Your head.
You continue this practice even today, by keeping Your devotees above Your head.
What kind of karuna is this, if not the unconditional mad love of God Datta?
O God Datta, like this - You are my Sun.
The moon also rotates and revolves around the Earth only, and not the direct Sun,
Indicating that we should be humble & always ready -
To serve even the servants of Sun, if not directly the Sun.
Beautiful is Your system while creating the sun, Earth and the moon,
To teach valuable lessons to souls, every item in Your creation has its use.
O God Datta, like this - You are my Sun.
Just like the Earth’s sea experiences high tides during her full moon sky,
My heart has joyful high tides seeing Your smiling face - in the full moon of the night.
Whereas the glittering stars in the background of the dark sky,
Reminds me of Your mysteriously deep & sparkling black eyes.
O God Datta, like this – You are my Sky.
The sun at dawn is like Guru Datta, a globe of red fire-like knowledge.
And the reddish sky is like Your aruna-vastram (saffron red clothes).
The sky at dusk is like the blue Krishna, wearing strings of white cloud-like pearls,
Along with Your pitambara vastram while the setting sun appears as Your kasturi tilakam.
From the morning Guru-sky-form (Datta) into evening Lover-sky-form (Shyam),
I watch You transform into these divine modes daily, with lot of admiration.
O God Datta, like this - You are my Sky.
The Earth looks like a bride adorned with jewels in the view of her night sky (groom).
Similarly, I feel like a bride for my Night Sky (Shyam Sundar).
Waiting to be taken away, to become only Yours forever,
Let my mind, words and actions, only for You be surrendered.
O God Datta, like this - You are my Sky.

Still Learning How To Love & Serve You…

I was fully covered in worldly mud.
But one step at a time,
I am being cleansed by the Divine Fire.
O Embodiment of Knowledge & Purity!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
O my Guiding Light! You pulled me out of darkness,
Rescued me from a situation like quicksand.
Whereas, I caused You only pain & disappointment.
O Embodiment of Tolerance & Forgiveness!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
I've been questioned on how clueless I am in life,
But I thought life’s clue was true & selfless love for God only.
O Embodiment of Unconditional Love!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
I’ve been told I’m the topper among non-intelligent devotees.
Yet, You are bearing someone like me & teaching me.
O Embodiment of Supreme Intelligence!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
I've been told I'm too innocent & naive,
And that I will be a lost case in my life.
But how will they know - that I will never be truly lost,
Since God is my Anchor & Sailor in this ocean.
O Embodiment of Guidance & Protection!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
I’ve been told I’m always drowned in my own thoughts.
How can I tell them - that my soul is parked at Your feet?
How will they know - that nowadays I see only You, in Your creation around me?
How can they see - that I’m dancing to music that reflects Your thoughts only?
O Embodiment of Supreme Beauty!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
I’ve been told I don’t have any ambitions.
But I thought the desire to reach You,
And become Yours forever was itself a great ambition.
O Embodiment of Valor & Strength!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
I've been told I'm too emotional.
However, You have taught that emotion towards God is good,
But it should be accompanied with divine knowledge instead.
O Embodiment of Detachment!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
I've been told I am materialistic.
Yes, I do get tempted to enjoy & spend on certain luxuries.
Still, You constantly give me chances,
To reform myself and become more spiritual.
O Embodiment of Immense Patience!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
I've been told to control my short and hot temper.
How I fail at this too miserably!
O Embodiment of Majestic Composure!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
I've been told I'm too stubborn.
And that I don’t listen to anyone once I make up my mind.
Let this quality be used for attaining You, rigidly and rightly so.
O Embodiment of Truth & Righteousness!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
I’ve been told I lack confidence & drown myself in self-doubt.
But there are three things in my life, I have full clarity & confidence about.
Firstly, that You are The Ultimate Parabrahman – The God Datta.
Secondly, I will never stop loving & wanting You, even if all bad happened in my life non-stop.
Last but not the least, I know that You will never leave me alone,
And no matter what happens, I will still be Your very own.
O Embodiment of Confidence, Grace & Dignity!

Thank You for putting up with me.
O God Datta! There is nothing in me that can truly please You.
But I can only try, and never take You for granted.
Even with my countless flaws, You have taken me as Your disciple,
Your priceless loving association too, You have generously granted.
O Embodiment of Causeless Compassion!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
Every single thing that has happened in my life,
Taught me valuable lessons and made me admire You even more!
It helped me see - God as The Highest Truth &
The Only One deserving of maximum love, importance and value.
It helped me see - The world as a practical training ground,
For the soul to learn and grow in each life, which is time-bound.
O Embodiment of Perfect Planning & Administration!
I'm still learning how to love & serve You.
Thank You for putting up with me.
You are The Only Reason for all human efforts I shall put,
To improve myself constantly and never give up for good.
Let all my sweat, blood and tears be only for You,
Let every breath and step I take, also be dedicated to You.
